How do I record my video?

Recording a video of your dance is easier than you think. Follow the guidelines below for the best results!

  1. Good lighting: This is crucial. If there isn't enough light, the other steps below will be compromised. Good lighting simply means having enough light. Unlike a live performance, you can control this factor. Simple adjustments, like opening windows, removing curtains, turning on extra lights, or adding spotlights, can make a significant difference. Even the time of day can affect the lighting, so consider when your space receives the most natural sunlight. With a bit of preparation, you can ensure your recording has optimal lighting.

  2. Camera positioning: Ideally, the camera should be positioned directly in front of the stage. Ensure it is static, preferably using a tripod or placed on a stable surface to avoid shaking. The camera should record in "Landscape" format. If using a mobile phone, make sure it's turned sideways.

  3. Field of view: Once the camera is positioned, check if the entire performance area is visible in the display. To avoid zooming in or out during the performance, ensure the field of view captures the entire dancing area without including too much of the space on either side of the stage. If the field of view is too wide, the dancer may appear small in the final recording, reducing the expressiveness of the performance.

  4. Camera settings: Use the following settings for the best recording quality:
    • Resolution: Set the resolution to FHD (Full High Definition). FHD offers a good balance between quality and file size. Avoid higher resolutions like 2K, 4K, or 8K, as they produce large files with minimal quality improvement. Resolutions below FHD, such as HD and SD, are insufficient for capturing the dancer with acceptable clarity.
    • Frame Rate: If available, set the frame rate to 60 FPS (Frames Per Second). This ensures that fast movements, like pirouettes, are captured clearly. However, it is not mandatory and we will accept 30FPS as well.

Most smartphones today are fully capable of capturing high-quality video recordings in FHD / 60FPS.

Remember, the competition rules require:

  • The video clip must be in a file of MP4 format.
  • Streaming videos are not allowed.
  • Submit only one clip per category. If participating in multiple categories, a separate MP4 clip must be provided for each.
  • The time limit for each video is 3 minutes.
  • We will inform you how to name your video file during the registration process. Please ensure that you name your files with the names provided before uploading the video clips.

    If you follow these steps, your final three minute MP4 video clip should not be larger than 400MB in size and should take between 15 seconds to 90 seconds to upload to the secure link we will provide you during the registration process depending on your internet connection.
